- Fill out the wait list enrollment form. Your entry date will be the date we receive your form and the $25.00 fee.
- You will receive a "mailing list update postcard" in January of each year. You must sign and return the card and the annual wait list fee of $25.00 to the school by the deadline in order to stay on the list. If your child is on the wait list for kindergarten through eighth grade, the fee is not required. If you have two or more children on the wait list and any one of them is on the list for prekindergarten, you must pay the $25.00 fee. If you have not received a card by mid-January, please contact the school. If your card is not returned by the deadline, your child will be dropped from the wait list, and will receive a new entry date only upon notifying us. If you are late in returning your card and check, a new entry date will be issued.
- Please note that if you call asking where your child is on the list, we cannot give you a number, and we prefer not to make an "educated guess" that may prove to be inaccurate.
- When an opening occurs, we look at all those with priority status first (faculty/staff, school, and alumni families). Next, we look at new families with the oldest entry dates. Please keep in mind that we do make an effort to keep a balance of boys and girls in each class. If there is a lopsided make-up to the class, we will pass up the oldest entry date to balance the class.
- When you are notified that there is an opening for your child in grades 1-8, a testing date (using the Stanford Achievement Test) will be scheduled. Your child must score average or above on our entrance test. If your child has recently taken the Stanford Achievement Test, the school will accept those scores. Your child's scores in all subject areas will be compared to the class average of which he or she will enter. It is important that the scores of a prospective new student are compatible with the class average, but not necessarily the same. It is a tremendous disservice to place a child in a class where the child would be put in the disadvantaged situation of being seriously behind academically. Every effort is made to make a compatible match with a new student and the class being entered. Among those factors considered are writing samples, previous standardized test scores, current and previous report cards, and a required all-day visit in the classroom.
- Prospective prekindergarten children will be asked to visit the classroom. Prospective kindergarten children will be given a "screening" assessment. Children entering prekindergarten and kindergarten must be four or five years old, respectively, by September 1 of the year they enter.
- If you are called and notified of an opening and you decline to have your child tested and enrolled, you lose your entry date and must take a new one. This applies to all priorities and all grade levels, prekindergarten-8 th grade.
- St. Albans provides many opportunities for prospective parents to visit the school and thereby enhance their knowledge and understanding of our school prior to being offered an opening.
