Admission Policy

Policy Regarding Priority for Testing for Admission

St. Albans Country Day School adheres to a non-discrimination policy, and the school will not reject the application of any student based on sex, race, creed, color, religion, nationality or ethnic origin.

1. First priority for testing for admission:

Faculty and Staff Families
First priority for testing for admission will be given to faculty and staff families who have placed their child's name on our list at the earliest date.

2. Second priority for testing for admission:

School Families
Second priority for testing for admission will be given to school families whose siblings have been enrolled in our program for the longest time and who have placed the waiting child's name on our list at the earliest date.

3. Third priority for testing for admission:

Alumni Families
Among alumni families, priority for testing for admission will be given to families according to the total number of student years for the family.

In case more than one family has the same number of student years, testing for admission will be allotted according to the date of placement on the waiting list.

4. Fourth priority for testing for admission:

New Families
Priority for testing for admission will be given to families who have placed their child's name on the list at the earliest date and who return our yearly survey indicating a desire to remain on the list.

• Children entering prekindergarten and kindergarten must be 4 or 5 years old, respectively, by September 1 of the year they enter.
  
  
• Classes will be organized on the basis of test and interview results as well as balance of girls and boys, writing samples, previous standardized test scores, report card grades, and a required all-day visit in the classroom.
  
  
• Families who decline to accept a class opening but who wish their child to remain on the list will be issued a new entry date. The new entry date will be the date of the refusal.
  
  
• The above conditions supersede priority status on the waiting list.
  
  
• Families who do not respond to our yearly survey and who do not pay the prekindergarten wait list fee by the deadline indicated will be dropped from our list regardless of priority status.
  
  
• St. Albans reserves the right to reject any applicant without any explanation, stated reason, or without cause.
